E S T E E M D R E S S

I have to admit.  This dress was not my idea.

One morning, months ago I sat with my daughter shopping around Pinterest for inspiration on a dress.  As it goes, Pinterest weaves you into new territory as the algorithms shift your focus from this to that.

And then she saw it.  Cali pointed to the screen at the most gorgeous dress I'd never get to wear.

Challenge accepted.

And so, in a few short days Cali helped me draft up our little project which hadn't had a name until the day I finished my final muslin.

I put my dress on for the first time and felt so darn good about myself!  Isn't that the whole point of fashion and getting ourselves dressed for the day.  To feel good about ourselves?

Esteem Dress.

Could not have decided on a better name.

So, I'll get into the stats on this little number really quick so you can go off and make your own ASAP!

Check out this size chart for sizing guides, tools, and fabric recommendations.  Please note that the bust line was drafted in a B cup.  SBA and FBA should be considered if you are not a B cup.  Finished Bust measurements are not given because the back of the dress is open.

Fun facts.  The midline sits at the natural waist.  Scoop neck with slightly fitted bust line, criss-cross back straps with gathered skirt and optional pockets!  The back of the skirt closes with an invisible zipper.  The hem line is intended to fall just above the knee but is customizable to your needs.

The model featured measures 33.5", 26", 36, and is wearing a size 4.

The Esteem Dress pictured was created with a light weight suiting with a slight stretch.

Other options to consider are very light-light weight fabrics such as rayon challis, voile, double gauze, chambray, gingham, shirting, chiffon, crepe, seersucker and linen etc.

Knits are also an option!  Stick with knits that have 100% recovery and less than 50% stretch.  If working with a knit fabric, you will need to create a waistband with a woven fabric.

  1. Love the story behind the pattern. I did my cut and pasting of the pattern last night, just need to finish the neckline on the current project before I cut!

The Willie Dress from Seamwork also has the same effect on me every time I wear it. We all need more of those dresses which is why I bought the Esteem!
